Original World War I WW1 poster on linen US shipping board J.M. Flagg 1918
CollectionHero
Original American poster printed in 1918 to promote the US Shipping Board and Emergency Fleet Corporation, the latter founded in 1917 to build the ships needed for transporting US soldiers and sailors to the First World War in Europe. The image, which shows a US sailor and US infantryman walking jauntily on either side of a shipyard laborer, communicates that all three are equally important for the US to win the war. Artist is the renowned James Montgomery Flagg, best known for his iconic (as well as rare and valuable) 1917 Uncle Sam "I Want You for US Army" recruiting poster. Flagg designed many other posters during both world wars. This poster is a lovely example of Flagg's signature style at an affordable price. Poster measures 40 x 30 inches and is newly linen-backed on 7 oz cotton duck and acid-neutral paper with an alkaline reserve to counteract future toning and deterioration of the paper. Excellent condition; no traces of fold lines since poster was always stored rolled. There are two photos, one with and one without flash. Please note: the toning visible on the borders of the image is the on the excess linen backing, not the poster itself. Poster will ship rolled in a heavyweight tube. Flat $20 shipping fee for lower 48 US states. Actual shipping charged to other destinations using a carrier of the buyer's choice. (Condition: Pre-Owned)

Ultra Rare WW1 Ottoman Empire Order of the Medjidie 5th Class Silver Medal 1910s
CollectionHero
Ultra Rare WW1 Ottoman Empire Order of the Medjidie 5th Class Silver Medal 1910sOrder of the Medjidie (Ottoman Turkish: ????? ??????, August 29, 1852 – 1922). is a military and civilian order of the Ottoman Empire. The Order was instituted in 1851 by Sultan Abdulmejid I.Instituted in 1851, the Order was awarded in five classes, with the First Class being the highest. The Order was issued in considerable numbers by Sultan Abdülmecid as a reward for distinguished service to members of the British Army and the Royal Navy and the French Army who came to the aid of the Ottoman Empire during the Crimean War against Russia and to British recipients for later service in Egypt and/or the Sudan. In Britain it was worn after any British gallantry and campaign medals awarded, but, as an Order, before foreign medals like the Turkish Crimean War medal. The Order was usually conferred on officers but a few enlisted soldiers and sailors also received it in a lower class. During World War I it was also awarded to a number of German, Austrian and Bulgarian officers. The Order was often conferred on non-Turkish nationals. On the obverse of the star is Sultan Abdülmecid's royal cipher surrounded by an inscription on a gold-bordered circle of red enamel; all on a star of seven triple quills with small crescents and five-pointed stars between them, suspended from a red enameled crescent and star suspender with green enameled edges.Rough translation of the front: To the left: (you have) crossed. To the right: (you are proven to be) correct. At the top: (you have provided) protection. At the bottom: Year 1268. In the centre: In the name of the God the forgiver, the merciful. The order has 5 classes. First, second, third and fourth classes are gold. Fifth (lower) class is silver.Owners of the order:• First Class Order (Gold) - 50 people (Given by Sultan)• Second Class Order (Gold) - 150 people (Given by Sultan)• Third Class Order (Gold) - 800 people• Fourth Class Order (Gold) - 3,000 people• Fifth Class Order (Silver) - 6,000 people

WWI German U BOAT Naval Binoculars WW1 imperial Navy Germany submarine
CollectionHero
antique OriginalWorld War One imperial German naval / submarine binoculars very rare ! ( not the far more common WWI infantry ‘ trench ‘ style ) the adjusting wheel is marked “ EMIL BUSCH A RATHENOW MOD. 08 3 1/2 x VERGR “ these have the special ‘ naval ‘ steel eyeshades extending over the front lenses( designed to cut the reflective glare from sea ) the left shade is marked crown over ‘ M ‘ The right side has the serial number 6675 this set still has the neck strap ( and it’s in excellent useable condition ) They come in the original leather case It shows light age and light scuffing , but is in solid shape they measure approximately 6” x 5 1/2 “the carry case measures 6 1/4 x 6 1/2 inches The field glasses and the case are both well marked with a large Capital “ M “ ( designating naval use ) and the imperial crown motif found on all WWI German military items The design originally came out in Germans 1908 ‘ Feldglas 08 ‘ and were produced until late 1918 The M 08 navy binoculars were preferred on submarines, because on a small ship any higher magnification binocular it is far more difficult to use in rough wavy erratic motion of the high seas “It has long since been known that model ‘08 binoculars of similar specification, with a large depth of focus, that very little focusing adjustment is really needed, either for distance or individuals. The 1908 models used on the submarines are rare today ,… as most went down with the ship ! - - -They fitted naturally into the hands of the sailors as often they had worn gloves; They were well balanced; And weight and size were not awkward to carry. It has to be emphasizing that not all models of binoculars could be used to submarines. The models used to vessels had to be constructed in a special way. They should be; waterproof or watertight.the optics of which was built according to a simple Galilean scheme (with only two lenses). The device turned out to be very reliable and compact it possessed high light transmission (approximately 80% versus 55-60% for prismatic binoculars of that time); therefore, it gave out a very bright image , perfect for sailors looking for masts and smokestacks lurking just above the horizon line Don’t pass them up ! 1000 times scarcer than the typical WWI era army field glasses don’t pass them up (Condition: Pre-Owned)
