New German Helmet World War One Ear Cut Out M-1918 ET 64 WW1 Authentic ?
CollectionHero
German M18 "EAR CUT OUT" Helmet In August 1918 the NEW German M18 helmets entered service, named "EAR CUT OUT", due to the "anomalous" cut of the side flaps. It is thought that this new design was dictated by 3 main reasons: 1 - To facilitate the insertion of headphones 2 - To reduce the "BELL" effect of the shrapnel and various materials that hit it. The Ear Cut-Out M1918 is often referred to as the "cavalry", "fascist" or "telephone talker" helmet. The helmet was developed and tested in August 1918 when front-line troops were asked for a helmet that allowed better hearing in the trenches. An estimated 2,100 M1918 Ear Cut-Outs were produced in 64 cm medium shells by the Consolidated Company in Thale. A planned total of 100,000 helmets were to be manufactured before the end of World War I. The helmet proved to be very effective and had it not been for the armistice signed in November 1918 this helmet might have been the next version scheduled for issue to all front line troops. In the mid 1920s at least one German company was contracted to reproduce the helmet in the larger 66 cm shell size. Also used on our front, some were recovered on Monte Grappa.Markings inside “R 1871 N”. The number means that the steel was milled at "Stahlwerk Röchling", in Volkingen PLEASE NOTE***I'm not a collector or expert so please see all photos for condition and let me know if you have any questions or need any more photographs.Due to the reason of light and the display, you can see the picture may have a slight color difference problem, this is inevitable, please understand Please review images to make your judgment on cosmetic condition which I believe is a matter of personal opinion. Original SPIRIT OF AMERICA - Join! Howard Chandler Christy's masterful 1919 WW1 Poster This poster measures 20"w x 30"h + 1" margins.AND, Poster is archaically Linen Lined As with all of my premium posters from WW1 and travel posters, I do not take "Best Offers!" so please do not ask!I will wrap this poster extremely well, as I always do, and I will send it to you securely wrapped in a special NEW reinforced mailing tube for safe delivery to you.Of course I have to ship everything INSURED, so check it out for any damage when you pick it up.PLEASE do not pay to the automatic eBay invoice or we will have to do the purchase all over again. Original WW1 Photo ALBUM Of AEF American Expeditionary Force France Part One
CollectionHero
This auction is for a super piece of WWI history, an original photo collection book by an identified United States volunteer who became a noted armed forces aviator. The photos includes The Hat in the Ring insignia represented the 94th Aero Squadron of the United States Army Air Service (USAAS) during World War I. The airman who put this together later operated Fowler Brothers bookstore, the oldest of its kind in Los Angeles, Ca. He was an aviator as well as a writer and worked for a time after the war as sports editor of the Los Angeles Times.Edward Vernon Rickenbacker, also known as Eddie Rickenbacher, 94th Aero Squadron, was an American fighter pilot in World War I and a Medal of Honor recipient. With 26 aerial victories, he was the most successful and most decorated United States flying ace of the war. He was also a racing driver, an automotive designer, and a long-time head of Eastern Air Lines. Per the October 3, 1918, edition of the Los Angeles Times, "Rickenbacker and Fowler [were] close personal friends, dating from the days when both were in the automobile game in Los Angeles, with neither ever having a thought of flying airplanes."This would make a perfect addition to The San Diego Air & Space Museum (SDASM), Los Angeles Times Archives, Occidental College Collection, Los Angeles Historical Society or your own collection of WWI Military history. Again the cover is loose from the body of the book and there is wear. Sold as I found it. Please see Part two of this history. It is ephemera on and about Mr. Ward Fowler. (Condition: Pre-Owned)

Antique WW1 Painted Siberia / Russian U.S. AEF Expedition Helmet
CollectionHero
Fantastic and seldom seen AEF Siberia expedition painted helmet. Whitewashed then stenciled "RUSSIA" across the top of the crown. Helmet shows age commensurate wear and light rust coming through the overpaint. Liner is mostly there with the chinstrap missing. Discovered in a garage recently in Northern California. History:The American Expeditionary Force, Siberia (AEF in Siberia) was a formation of the United States Army involved in the Russian Civil War in Vladivostok, Russia, after the October Revolution, from 1918 to 1920. The force was part of the larger Allied North Russia intervention. As a result of this expedition, early relations between the United States and the Soviet Union were poor.U.S. President Woodrow Wilson's claimed objectives for sending troops to Siberia were as much diplomatic as they were military. One major reason was to rescue the 40,000 men of the Czechoslovak Legion, who were being held up by Bolshevik forces as they attempted to make their way along the Trans-Siberian Railroad to Vladivostok, and it was hoped, eventually to the Western Front. Another major reason was to protect the large quantities of military supplies and railroad rolling stock that the United States had sent to the Russian Far East in support of the Russian Empire's war efforts on the Eastern Front of World War I. Equally stressed by Wilson was the need to "steady any efforts at self-government or self defense in which the Russians themselves may be willing to accept assistance." At the time, Bolshevik forces in Siberia controlled only small pockets, and President Wilson wanted to make sure that neither Cossack marauders nor the Japanese military would take advantage of the unstable political environment along the strategic railroad line and in the resource-rich Siberian regions that straddled it.Concurrently and for similar reasons, about 5,000 American soldiers were sent to Arkhangelsk (Archangel), Russia by Wilson as part of the separate Polar Bear Expedition HistoryThe AEF in Siberia was commanded by Major General William S. Graves and eventually totaled 7,950 officers and enlisted men. The force included the U.S. Army's 27th and 31st Infantry Regiments, plus large numbers of volunteers from the 12th, 13th, and 62nd Infantry Regiments of the 8th Division, Graves' former division command. The U.S. troops were equipped with M1918 Browning Automatic Rifles (BAR), Auto-5 shotguns/trench clearers, M1903 Springfield rifles, M1911 .45 caliber pistols, and M1917 Browning machine guns depending on their duties. Mosin–Nagant rifles were also used.Although General Graves did not arrive in Siberia until September 4, 1918, the first 3,000 American troops disembarked in Vladivostok between August 15 and August 21, 1918. They were quickly assigned guard duty along segments of the railway between Vladivostok and Nikolsk Ussuriski in the north. Units were placed along the railway as far west as Irkutsk and Ulan-Ude.Unlike his Allied counterparts, General Graves believed their mission in Siberia was to provide protection for American supplied property and to help the Czechoslovak Legion evacuate Russia, and that it did not include fighting against the Bolsheviks. Repeatedly calling for restraint, Graves often clashed with commanders of British, French, and Japanese forces, who also had troops in the region and who wanted him to take a more active part in the military intervention in Siberia. To operate the Trans-Siberian Railroad, the Russian Railway Service Corps was formed of US personnel. The experience in Siberia for the soldiers was miserable. Problems with fuel, ammunition, supplies, and food were widespread. Horses accustomed to temperate climates were unable to function in sub-zero Russia. Water-cooled machine guns froze and became useless. The last American soldiers left Siberia on April 1, 1920. During their 19 months in Siberia, 189 soldiers of the force died from all causes. As a comparison, the smaller American North Russia Expeditionary Force experienced 235 deaths from all causes during their nine months of fighting near Arkhangelsk American socialist author Upton Sinclair, in his novel Oil!, references the AEF in Siberia and ascribes capitalist motives as the primary driver of the Allied intervention ResultsBy every measure, President Wilson's interventions in Russia failed. The Eastern Front had not been reestablished, the war supplies stockpiled in Russian ports had not been saved, and no popular, progressive, non-Communist government had been established. The Japanese continued to meddle in Siberian affairs for another two years in a futile effort to carve out a puppet state. Even the successful extrication of the Czech Legion had little to do with Graves' small expedition. In the words of Chief of Staff Peyton C. March, the expeditions in Russia had been little more than “a military crime”.*See pics for details and condition - ask all questions before item ends as our antiques and collectibles are sold AS-IS* Shipping can be combined on like sized items only with prior approval.
